The journey

Just outside Hopetown on the farm, De Lande, we had a storage shed, surrounded by bushes - completely out of use and everything but a safe environment.

This building, this school, is a perfect example of Isaiah 61:3.

"To bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,

the oil of joy instead of mourning,

and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.

They will be called oaks of righteousness,

a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor."

Where we started...

But then...

Only a few months after opening the school, we had to sell the farm. We did not know where we would go with Salt&Light, but we knew that giving up was not an option.

After negotiating with our local municipality for a decade, they offered us a historic building—the 1909 Carnegie Library.

With the building neglected and in shambles, we had to start all over once again. We immediately started renovating as much as our funds allowed it. We knew that we would not be finished in time for the commencement of the 2025 school year, so in the meantime, the school is carrying on in the church building.

The restoration of the honorable Carnegie Library is still in process. Have a look at the progress.
